Baseball fans in Sarasota, Fla., are split between two teams. They have the Tampa Bay Rays to the north and the Miami Marlins to the south.
Despite this, there's no disagreeing on where to dine in the area.
Mattison's City Grill (1 North Lemon Avenue) - This is a great place to hang out with friends. Locals tend to love it, whereas people from out of town may not find it so appealing. Live music plays while you are eating and the atmosphere is anything but rigid. Parties can sit outdoors and enjoy the lovely weather. They serve lamb chops that are a popular menu item. This place can be a little pricey for some fans, but others don't mind it.
Yoders (3434 Bahia Vista St) - Previously seen on "Man vs. Food", this Amish restaurant has earned a fine reputation for their pot roast and fried chicken. There are no preservatives in their food and everything is made from scratch. The portions are so big you will want to loosen your belt after your meal. The food can be high in fat and calories, which is more taboo in Florida, but there's nothing wrong with spoiling yourself. The only downside is the restaurant is always packed.
Lavanda (1938 Adams Lane #105) - Lavanda is both a classy and fun restaurant to satisfy the fan and his spouse. It is hidden between an art gallery and other shops, but stands out on its own none the less. The prices cannot be beat for lunch, but when dinner rolls around it does get a little pricey. The dishes are unique in that there are several types of meat to choose from, but there are not too many options for vegetarians. If one person wants to see the players train while the other wants to see the galleries and museums, Lavanda is the perfect palate cleanser.
The Broadway Bar (1001 Cocoanut Avenue) - If you have a large party for dinner, the Broadway Bar comes highly recommended. What sets this place apart is the atmosphere of togetherness and friendship. It is a local hangout in Sarasota where everyone knows everyone and the servers strike up friendly conversation. Many locals bring their friends and they are treated like family. The Broadway Bar's pizzas have super thin crusts so all the toppings really shine. Come in for a full meal or just a celebratory beer.
