The amateur or beginner NASCAR fan should put these tracks on their list of ones to visit within their lifetime. They each have different bragging rights but all of them accommodate a fun-filled day for the whole family.
Daytona- The most well known track is this super speedway where the Daytona 500, "The Great American Race", takes place. It is a popular track for several reasons. Daytona opens the Sprint Cup season. Police officers undergo motorcycle training and care manufacturers test their vehicles on this infamous track. Sadly, it has also claimed the most lives in NASCAR. 14 drivers including Dale Earnhardt Sr, have lost their lives racing at Daytona.
Indianapolis- Indy Motor Speedway is the largest facility in the world for spectator sports. The Kentucky Derby, Yankee Stadium, the Rose Bowl, the Roman Coliseum, the Wimbledon Campus, and Vatican City can all fit within the complex with room to spare. It has a quarter of a million seats around the track and sports its own golf course.
Martinsville- At just over a half mile, this is the shortest track in the Sprint Cup. Since it is shaped more like a paperclip than an oval, the turns bring racers closer together. It is so small that Pit Road encompasses one and a half of both turns. The fans are closer to the action as well making it an exciting race to be in and to watch. Fans say Martinsville has the best value and seating for the ticket price.
Sonoma- Road tracks are not the normal oval shape synonymous with NASCAR. Therefore, they are harder to navigate. Sonoma's coat hanger shape has 12 turns that go both left and right. Along with NASCAR, Sonoma hosts other leagues during the year like INDYCAR and drag races as one of the most versatile tracks in the nation. It is open 340-350 days a year and is the location of several racing festivals.
Talladega- This super speedway next to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame is another track known to non-NASCAR fans. That is not the only asset Talladega has to boast. Known as the fastest racetrack in the world, it has the longest oval track in the Sprint Cup at 2.66 miles with the 33 degree banks, the steepest of any NASCAR track. The super speedway also hosts a number of driving and racing schools like the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure, the fastest racing school in the nation.
